Pine Grosbeaks & other winter birds...

Not much bird excitement due to the fact that most of the finches have passed through, but the male Pine Grosbeak that has been hanging around lately has given me great views and photos! Most Pine Grosbeaks that are seen are usually the plain looking females, so that was pretty cool! Not much around lately, but here are a few yard highlights: Iceland Gull (My 180 yard bird of the year!), a late-ish Hermit Thrush, a few Bohemian Wawings, a Hoary Redpoll, and (of course) the Pine Grosbeaks. Right now as I write this, it is snowing and windy, and a few Pine Grosbeaks are foraging on the ground in my backyard, so I think winter is finally here. Hopefully a rare bird will decide to stop by soon.

Here are some photos...

  1. Wow great photos. I am a teen birder from near Hamilton and will be heading up to our cottage in Bruce on Dec. 11. I was wondering if I would be able to come bird with you one morning on the 12th or 13th where you regularly bird. You can email me at: rowankeunen@gmail.com Thanks!
